In this thread I'm going to talk about the many ways to make your site a back-link celebrity (which is important if you want to have success in your site).
I created this create because I read an awesome article about it an decided to share it with you guys here on Fleud! (I copied a few and paraphrased a few myself). I think these methods/ways are very efficient and good way to improve in SEO too. So let's get started.
1. Quality AND Quantity
- So first, basicly your site needs to have contents (for example if your working on an internet marketing site, you need to have internet marketing stratagies), but as you often hear people say, "Quality over Quantity". But here, I'm saying that a site should have both Quality AND Quantity. When you look at a site that has a good content, but only a few post updated in a few months, it is likely to have many users coming everyday.
2. Add a blog to your site - Blogs are capable of getting a lot more back-link love than regular websites. There are several reasons for this:
Blogs are tracked in real-time. Blog search engines publish the most recent blog entries they can find. This means your new entries get linked to instantly.
Blogs are much easier to update than regular websites. You can create a lot more content in the same amount of time. There is no need to design a new page for a new article. You simply write a new article and publish. Your increase in content will increase your visibility and ability to get links.
Blogs get links from other blogs. If you run a regular website that isn’t a blog, you will have a harder time getting links from bloggers. Bloggers mostly read and follow blogs!
3. Learn to know about Social-bookmarking sites!
- Get all your friends to bookmark your content/post/links to Digg (http://www.digg.com/) if they like it!(It is a popular bookmarking site that allows users to vote whether they like to post or not). If it is a good article(let's say this thread :P), it would bring a lot of people to that site. There are other bookmarking sites such as De.li.cious (http://del.icio.us/), StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/), Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/) or even Facebook (http://%22http://www.facebook.com)! Here (http://www.fleud.com/social-bookmarking-list-t150.html) a big list for social-bookmarks and Here (http://www.fleud.com/top-social-bookmark-t244.html) is a list of top social bookmark sites. How can you submit it? First you need to create an account, which isn't hard, then just look at the end of this post, you should be able to see " Bookmarks " and these famous social-bookmark.
4. Get to know your genre's elders.
- Link to them often and they are going to watch closely the source of their traffic and will definitely see if you’re sending some their way. If you send them traffic, they may start reading your site. If they find something they like, they might link to it. These "elders" are usually pretty generous in spreading the link love.
5. Publish an RSS feed.
- An RSS feed is like the newspaper but now you get to choose which section you want to see (for example, sport section, so the newspaper will only show things about sport). Most people or webmasters stay updated just by reading RSS feeds instead of going to sites one by one, so this is very important for your site so that people can know what has been updated.
6. Setup your feed on Feedburner (http://www.feedburner.com)
- This makes your feed subscriptions easy to track and allows you to encourage users to subscribe. After you have quite a few subscribers, it makes getting additional subscriptions easy.
7. Comment and respond to comments on blogs
- Always fill in the URL box so that the owner can find your site. Learn to write a GOOD comment on other people's blog, so it'll most likely get them interested in your site too. Also, respond to the comments left on your blog, instead of leaving it there with tons of question left unanswered.
8. Respond to emails.
- When someone has a problem, was respond to them and help them. Be as nice as you can, being nice to others will earn you respect and link love :)
9. Learn to link to others.
- Link interesting articles on other blogs, they will most probably link back to you if you have some good content.
10. Use deep-linking.
- Deep-linking is when you link to older posts or pages in new posts or pages. This article links to quite a few of my older articles that I think are good resources for the people reading this one. This can help your readers and expose your good work to them. Like in this post, I linked it to one of Playerh's bookmark thread. Fall in love with linking as it is a very important thing to do!
11. Do blog reviews and link exchange
- I'm sure many sites out there wants to exchange blog reviews. Like for example, you do a short review about their blog, and in exchange they will do a short review about your blog too. :) You can email and webmaster of the site and even offer linkbacks or such.
12. Meet and get to know other bloggers or webmasters.
- For example, MyBlogLog (http://www.mybloglog.com/) is like Facebook for bloggers. It it a place where bloggers meet to chat or just to make friends. Make friends and your site will generally become more popular.
13. Read your posts before publishing.
- Edit, edit, and edit again. You have to make them as presentable as possble and ready to show the world. Make sure your writing is easy to read and have no spelling error. Run a spell check to make sure you made no typos in your post.
14. Submit articles/reviews/testimonials to other site
- Submit your articles to articles sites like GoArticles (http://www.goarticles.com/), most of them will allow you to put your link at the end of the post which might interest some people and will visit your site to read more about you and your work. You can even write to news sites like ESPN.com . Write testimonials to the sites who have helped you, cause most testimonial will soon become link-backs :)
15. Let everyone know!
- Let the elders/webmasters or even your friends know if you have written something good, that might help them or even things they might want to link-back to.
16. Start a few more blogs
- You can create free blogs at Blogspot.com (http://www.blogspot.com). Give your main blog a link once in a while. You dont need to have a lot of link in it, but a few might just help you earn a lot of money.
17. Link your blog or site
- If you have MSN, you can start linking your site at your description, or even post your blog url in your social networking site, like Facebook, Myspace, Hi-5 or even Twitter! Let your friends know what you are doing.
These are just shorten and a compilation of a few good methods I've seen so far. I will update this thread or even create a new one if I find other or better ways. If you have anything to add to help out everyone here, please do not hesitate to reply ;)
Here is the source which I got most of the ideas from 102 Ways to Make Your Site A Back-Link Superstar (http://courtneytuttle.com/2007/04/09/102-ways-to-make-your-blog-or-site-a-back-link-superstar/).
