OK, in a few weeks I'm buying a new computer, however it isn't supplied with an OS.... I'm wondering if I can use my existing OS CD to load XP onto a new PC

thanks in advance :)

If I can't then I'll probably get windows 7, and when it expires, pony up and buy it.

If you have read my Windows 7 info hread you would've known the download link stays there out July and that there is unlimited activation codes.

Yeah, you can load windows on through your old Windows XP CD. Since its a new PC I'm assuming it has a big hard drive, atleast over 500GB, so you can just partition the HD into two and install XP on one partition and 7 on the other. I used to do that and it was awesome, except I have one windows xp and one slackware (linux). Check out disk partitioning tools in google, there are plenty out there :D

I was kidding :P I didn't mean to sound mad or anything xD

Anyways, consider XP if you use programs running only on XP, and consider Windows 7 if not, or dual boot!

thanks for the feedback :D
Ok, I think I'll set it up as a dual boot... XP for my poor old mother, and 7 for everyone else :P

can you access files on different partitions yes? so on my win7 partition I can still access "my documents" on the XP partition

Yes you can, although you may need to edit permissions. That's very easy though, so go for it :):)

I can't really remember on windows. You have to be on the right OS and logged in as the owner of the file. There shoule be a simple way of doing it, so look around, and I will get back to you tonight :)
